3 sought in Ohio in break-in case nabbed in Maine Trio arrested by Old Town police

OLD TOWN – Three days after their arrest in Old Town, three people wanted for ransacking a home in Ohio remained in custody at the Penobscot County Jail on Wednesday awaiting extradition.

Police estimate that $3,500 in jewelry, electronics and other items were taken from the home, but acknowledged that the estimate could go much higher once formal values are determined for the dozens of rings and necklaces that were taken.

One of the three arrested is the daughter of the woman whose home was ransacked, while Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said one of the two men in custody also was wanted on a charge of aggravated attempted robbery.

The mother told police that she wants to press charges, including against her daughter, Jenny M. Williams, 18, who, according to reports, broke into her mother’s home through a window and then directed the two men as to which items to take and which to leave.

Williams, 19-year-old Ted F. Williamson and 26-year-old Robert E. Fink all were charged by Old Town police with unlawful use of property and receiving stolen property. Williamson, who was wanted on the robbery charge, also was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license.

The van the three were in caught the attention of police on Stillwater Avenue at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The van drove straight through a turning lane and pulled into an apartment complex parking lot briefly and then into the Irving Mainway parking lot, Hashey reported. Hashey ran a license check on the Ohio plates and learned that the van was reported stolen by police in Lancaster, Ohio.

Williams claimed that she had borrowed her mother’s van to move and that she was supposed to have returned it after a few hours. That was four days earlier, she admitted.

Fink, however, told Hashey that Williams and Williamson broke in through a window and that once inside, Williams pointed out items of value to be taken, including a computer, television and VCR, as well as the jewelry and some coins.

Fink said they then drove to New York and arrived in Maine two days after leaving Ohio. He said that on the way they sold a television for $50.
