VAN BUREN – Tyler Hughes’ goal in the second overtime lifted the Van Buren Crusaders to a 3-2 victory over the Washburn Beavers in schoolboy soccer action Wednesday.

Chris Masemola scored an unassisted goal for the 2-1 winners and Stacey Ayotte scored on a penalty kick. Sean Violette stopped 12 of 16 shots.

Shawn Bragg scored off a direct kick and Jim Bugby added a goal off an Issac Carney assist for the 1-2 Beavers. Jesse Maynard made 16 saves on 35 shots for Van Buren.

Madawaska 4, Wisdom 0

At St. Agatha, Marc Garcia scored a pair of goals and Steve Soucy, Paul Michaud and Jeff Ayotte combined for three saves on six shots as Madawaska improved to 2-0.

Steve Guerrette and Ted McHenry had the other goals with Bryan and Alex Daigle and Josh Michaud each notching an assist.

Brad Thibeault made 12 saves on 25 shots for 1-2 Wisdom.

Fort Fairfield 5, Hodgdon 0

At Fort Fairfield, Eric Turnquist scored two goals and Mickey Brown converted on a penalty kick as the 2-0 Tigers rolled past the Hawks.

Ryan Helstrom had a goal and an assist, and Tyler Bernaiche stopped three of six shots for the winners.

Ryan Doecher saved eight of 38 shots for the 0-2 Hawks.

Girls soccer

Madawaska 5, Wisdom 0

At St. Agatha, the Owls scored four second-half goals en route to the win over the Pioneers.

Kristine Cyr led 2-0 Madawaska with two goals and an assist, while Kay Gerard had a goal and an assist and Danielle Lavois and Lynelle Winters chipped in with one goal apiece. Meghan Marshall made two saves on four Wisdom shots.

Shannon Berube stopped 12 of 20 shots for the 1-2 Pioneers.

Van Buren 2, Washburn 0

At Van Buren, Danielle Gagnon stopped three of five shots as the Crusaders blanked the Beavers.

For 2-1 Van Buren, Melanie Cyr and Nicole Corbin had a goal each and Tosha Gagnon added an assist.

Morgan Sickels stopped nine of 16 shots for 0-3 Washburn

Hodgdon 4, Fort Fairfield 1

At Fort Fairfield, Shanna McGary netted two goals to lead the 1-1 Hawks to the win.

Jess Harris and Sara Quint scored a goal each and Amanda Fitzpatrick stopped 17 of 19 shots for Hodgdon.

For the 1-1 Tigers, Miranda Butler scored and Dani Searles saved six of nine shots.
