JONESPORT – The O.W. & B.S. Look Co. Inc. has paid a $500 penalty to the Maine Department of Environmental Protection for discharging raw sewage into Moosabec Reach.

The violation stems from an outhouse the company had on its wharf. DEP staff were alerted to the outhouse by personnel of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

According to the DEP consent agreement with the company, O.W. & B.S. Look immediately removed the outhouse when contacted by the DEP. The discharge likely had little impact on water quality in the area, according to the DEP.
