Toys R Us recalls pants after choking incident

WASHINGTON – Toys R Us is recalling about 7,000 pairs of children’s cargo pants because plastic toggles on the pockets can break off, posing a choking hazard.

The Kids R Us division of the Paramus, N.J.-based company has received one report of a 9-month-old boy who began to choke on a toggle he removed from the pants, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The recalled pants are navy, khaki or stone with different color stitching around the pockets. The pants have an elastic waistband and an elastic draw-cord. A label on the rear inside seam reads “Koala Baby” or “Little Legends” and the care label reads “Made in Thailand.”

Kids R Us and Babies R Us stores nationwide and some Toys R Us stores sold these pants from June through July for about $10. The pants were sold in both newborn and infant sizes.

The safety commission advises consumers to remove and discard the two toggles on the leg pockets. The toggles are decorative and the pants can be worn without them.
