A pickup truck struck a sport utility vehicle Friday on South Main Street in Old Town, sending the SUV off the road and into a porch.

No injuries were reported, although the SUV was totaled and the porch received substantial damage, according to the police reports. The accident occurred at about 3:20 p.m. by Cooper Street and was seen by several people in the parking lot of Jackson’s Service Center across the street.

Nancy M. Blair, 38, of Belfast told police she had slowed and was making a right turn onto Cooper Street when she heard an engine revving behind her and then her 2001 GMC Jimmy was struck on the right side.

The force then pushed her SUV up onto a nearby lawn and into the porch at 380 South Main St., reported Sgt. Michael Hashey, who investigated the accident.

Danny E. Emerson, 30, of Milford was the driver of the 1993 GMC pickup truck and said that he saw Blair move to the left and thinking she was turning left, started to pass her on the right, Hashey reported.

A witness told Hashey that Blair was turning right when Emerson accelerated and tried to pass her on the right. None of the witnesses was in a position to see whether Blair had a turn signal on, which was being disputed by the drivers. Blair said she had her right signal on, while Emerson told police he didn’t see a turn signal.

Chevala Ogden, 27, faces a charge of assault after it was reported she struck her boyfriend in the face, leaving cuts and a swollen left eye Thursday night.

The dispute began inside one of the rooms of the Milford Motel and spread out into the parking lot, but had broken up by the time Sgt. John Skroski of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department arrived. Ogden admitted to hitting her boyfriend, but said it was after he had grabbed her arm. Her boyfriend, however, said that he had grabbed her arm in self-defense to get her to stop and that Ogden had also spit in his face. Witnesses said that in the parking lot, Ogden had been the aggressor.

In an apparent attempt to avoid police after his drunken driving arrest in Bangor, a man headed to bars north of the city and was arrested for drunken driving in Veazie as he was headed home.

Donald Marshall, 58, was released from jail Friday after his court appearance.

Marshall had been arrested in Bangor on Aug. 9 and again in Veazie on Aug. 11. Veazie police had been alerted to a possible intoxicated driver and Officer Lee Miller reported stopping the suspected car and finding Marshall at the wheel. Marshall admitted to drinking four beers but told the officer the drinks had a minimal effect on him. In field sobriety tests, however, Marshall lost his balance in one and couldn’t complete another.

He was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and with violation of conditions of release.

Two days earlier, Bangor police had arrested Marshall after warning him not to drive and then seeing him later driving on Essex Street. During his investigation, Officer Russell Twaddell described and then demonstrated the walk and turn field sobriety test. Marshall laughed and told Twaddell that he “couldn’t do that kind of movement unless he was dancing.”

Marshall subsequently was arrested and charged with OUI.
