EAST MACHIAS – The first day of school for SAD 77’s kindergarten through eighth-grade pupils will be Sept. 4.

SAD 77 Superintendent Klaus-Peter Voss has announced that preschoolers attending the Mary C. Burns School will start on Sept. 5.

Parents of preschoolers are responsible for their children’s transportation, but buses will begin picking up children from kindergarten through eighth grade on Sept. 4, the superintendent said.

SAD 77 includes Cutler, East Machias, Machiasport and Whiting.

Parents of new elementary school students can register with the elementary school principals in each of those towns or the superintendent’s office during the week of Aug. 27, Voss said.

Registration for preschoolers, who must be 4 by Oct. 15 and live in a district town, will take place at the Mary C. Burns School from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Preschool will run from 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., daily.

Classes for pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 2.45 p.m.
