Emily Dickinson wrote “I’m nobody, who are you? Are you nobody, too? Then there’s a pair of us, Shhh! don’t tell, they’ll banish us you know…”
Just for the record, and referring to the article about schools (BDN, Aug. 16), there are at least 11 “nobodies” who have permanent residence and live full time in the unorganized township of Grand Falls Plantation.
Despite the misinformation that’s being offered, from faulty Bangor Daily News reports to census numbers that make us “not count,” the fact remains that we are here and no one that I know plans on leaving in the near future. Even the slightest of efforts could have revealed the fact. Surely our closest neighbors – the people of Burlington, who were interviewed for the article, are not responsible; they all know better. We vote in Burlington (state and national elections), we register our vehicles there, license our dogs and collect our mail. We buy the BDN at the only store.
Miss Dickinson completed her poem, “How dreary to be somebody, how public like a frog, to sing your name, the live long day, to an admiring bog.” Guess us “nobodies” tend to agree.
