PORTLAND – Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield announced Monday a program that enables Mainers with Medicare supplement policies to save money on prescription drug costs.
The health insurer said its Rx Consumer Card will be mailed to its Companion Plan members at no charge, starting in October.
Anthem Blue Cross general manager Jim Parker said the cards can save members between 10 and 40 percent on the costs of many drugs.
“Whenever a prescription is filled at a participating pharmacy, Anthem BCBS Companion Plan members can be assured the lowest price available to them for medications,” Parker said.
Anthem said as many as 40,000 Mainers are eligible for the cards, which are being accepted at Shaw’s, Community Pharmacy, CVS, Rite Aid, Shop ‘n Save/Hannaford, Wal-Mart and most independent pharmacies.
