Multiple car accident injures 3 in Presque Isle

PRESQUE ISLE – A four-car, chain-reaction accident Monday afternoon on Main Street sent three people to The Aroostook Medical Center with minor injuries.

William Ward, 22, of Limestone had stopped in the northbound lane at about 12:20 p.m. to turn into a business, according to Officer Norman Quirino of the Presque Isle Police Department.

Ward’s 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier car was struck from behind by a 1993 Honda Civic operated by George Tobin, 60, of Eagle Lake.

Roger Foust, 31, of Fort Drum, N.Y., was traveling behind Tobin, but was able to stop his 2000 Dodge Stratus in time to avoid the cars ahead.

A fourth car, operated by Nikki Larsen, 26, of Presque Isle, then hit the rear of Foust’s car. The impact pushed Foust’s car into the rear of Tobin’s car, which then hit Ward’s car again.

Larsen suffered unspecified neck and mouth injuries and was taken by Crown Ambulance to TAMC for treatment and later released, Quirino said.

Foust and a passenger in his car, Eugene Jones Jr., 21, also of Fort Drum, N.Y., both complained of neck pain. They were taken to TAMC by ambulance for treatment and later were released.

Damage to Ward’s car was estimated at $100, according to the officer. Damage to the front and rear of Tobin’s Honda was estimated at $700, and to Foust’s Dodge, $200.

Quirino said Larsen’s Oldsmobile was a total loss.
