AUGUSTA – Verizon will begin issuing one-time credits to some customers beginning next month because of a previous billing error, the Maine Public Utilities Commission announced Monday.
Residential customers who subscribe to Verizon’s local service packages called “Local Package” and “Sound Deal” are eligible for the refund because the company neglected to apply High Cost Fund credits to those customers. Urban customers will receive either a $20 or $31 credit, and rural customers will receive a $5 credit.
The High Cost Fund is administered by the Federal Communications Commission to assist customers in rural states like Maine, where the cost of providing telephone service is high.
