PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rhode Island College on Wednesday named Mike Kelly as head men’s basketball coach.
Kelly, 30, replaces Dave Johnston, who served as interim coach for the Division III school. The Anchormen went 8-16 last season.
Kelly, a Massachusetts native, was most recently assistant men’s basketball coach at Davidson College. He’s also worked as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Virginia Tech University.
He began his coaching career in 1993 as an assistant at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
As a player, Kelly was a two-year starter for the Saint Joseph’s College basketball team in Maine.
He’s a 1989 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth High School.
