Teen burglar bites resident, police say

Two Bangor men awoke to noises in their Cottage Street residence early Tuesday morning and found that a 16-year-old girl had broken in and was stacking alcohol, food and DVDs on the floor in preparation for her getaway, police said.

They called police about 4:40 a.m. and held the intoxicated girl until authorities arrived and took her into custody, according to police. The girl struggled with the two men and bit one of them on the arm, said Detective Lt. Tim Reid. The injury didn’t require immediate medical attention, but Reid said the man was advised to go to the hospital to have it examined and cleaned.

The girl was only identified as coming from the Bucksport area, as her name is being withheld because she is a juvenile. She was charged with burglary and assault and was released to the custody of her mother, Reid said. The girl was under the influence of intoxicants and Reid said she wasn’t cooperative.

She got inside the home through an unlocked window and raided cabinets and the refrigerator, taking food, alcohol and DVDs. She piled them up on the floor, where Reid said she also had a bag or pillowcase that she intended to use to carry the items out. He estimated that she had amassed several hundred dollars’ worth of items.

A car seen twice in a turn-around area in Bangor where parking was prohibited prompted an investigation by Bangor police late Tuesday night and ended with the arrest of a Monroe man.

James Allen, 44, faces charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and operating a motor vehicle after license suspension.

Two cars were seen parked at the turnaround on Valley Avenue near the 14th Street Extension about 11:20 p.m., despite the area being closed to the public after 10 p.m. and posted as no parking, reported Officer Steve Jordan. The two cars drove off after Jordan “lit” them up with the cruiser’s lights.

But a short time later, Jordan returned to the area and found that one of the cars had returned as well. A man standing by the side of the car was sent along and Jordan said he saw Allen trying to hide beers on the floor on the passenger side.

While Jordan was talking to Allen, the motorist put the car into gear and started to move forward, prompting Jordan to tell Allen to stop. When that didn’t work,

Jordan yelled and struck the door frame with his flashlight. Allen stopped the car.

Jordan noted that Allen’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot and the officer could smell alcohol on the man’s breath. Allen was unsteady on his feet and swayed and admitted to drinking three beers, according to Jordan.

Dispatch reported that Allen’s license had been suspended because of a previous OUI conviction and Jordan arrested him. His blood-alcohol content registered 0.13 percent on the Intoxilyzer test, more than 11/2 times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

A former employee of Big Fred’s Restaurant in Bangor was arrested Wednesday after restaurant officials reported he had repeatedly harassed employees and customers.

Cecil Ryder, 56, was charged with criminal trespass and harassment and warned not to return to the Broadway restaurant. Since he was fired two weeks ago, Ryder has been calling the restaurant and showing up intoxicated and belligerent, yelling obscenities at staff and customers, an employee told Officer Chris Desmond.

While Desmond was at the restaurant, Ryder called. Desmond gave him a verbal warning about harassing people at the restaurant. Desmond then returned to the police station to pick up papers needed to issue Ryder a harassment warning.

He hadn’t been gone long – about 15 minutes – when someone at the restaurant called police to report that Ryder had showed up in a cab, apparently with the intention of giving a card to a former colleague to whom he had previously given flowers.
