JONESBORO – Traffic on Route 1 was rerouted for several hours Thursday morning after a two-vehicle accident sent a 21-year-old woman from Tennessee to Down East Community Hospital in Machias.
Maine State Police Trooper Elmer Farren said Jennifer Robish suffered orthopedic injuries after her 1992 Toyota pickup truck was struck by a six-wheel commercial vehicle driven by Clarence Grant, 39, of Florida.
Neither Grant nor his passenger, Carol Dawes, 20, of Harrington, was seriously hurt in the 8:30 a.m. collision, the trooper said.
Farren said Grant and Dawes were driving north on Route 1 when they came upon a vehicle that was stopped while waiting to turn into the Jonesboro post office.
Grant was unable to stop in time to avoid the stopped car, and he drove into the southbound lane, striking Robish’s oncoming pick-up truck, Farren said.
State police closed off that portion of Route 1 and rerouted traffic through Centerville while rescue workers extricated Robish from her truck and officers conducted an investigation, Farren said.
Robish was wearing a seat belt, but Grant and Dawes were not.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, the trooper said.
