Witches’ defense downs Lynx Hahl, Trask score 3 TDs

LINCOLN – Defense decided the game as the Brewer Witches converted three Mattanawcook Academy turnovers into touchdowns en route to a 27-7 high school football victory Friday night.

The Witches’ defense provided the 21 points in the form of a Ryan Hahl fumble recovery in the end zone and two defensive grabs by Eric Trask. Trask used a 35-yard run after a fumble recovery and a 40-yard interception return for his two scores. Trask also had six tackles.

The offenses fought an even battle throughout the game as each scored only one TD apiece. Josh Caldwell scored the Witches’ lone offensive score on a 5-yard run in the second quarter.

Tyler Gardner caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from Dustin Hanscom in the fourth quarter for the Lynx’s only score of the game.

Matt Malone, Tyler Libby and Corey Task each had nine tackles for the Lynx. Task also had one sack.

At Millinocket, Chris McInnis scooted 87 yards for a score on the first play from scrimmage, sparking the Black Raiders to a 27-0 halftime lead and a season-opening victory.

Ricky Vigue scored on runs of four and 11 yards on his way to 136 yards on 11 carries for the winners. Chris Langlais had a 4-yard TD run, James Bridges scored from 5 yards out, and Ken Nadeau recovered a fumble in the end zone.

Derek DiFrederico rushed for 106 yards on 11 carries, including a 5-yard TD run, to lead Stearns. Nate Frank scored on a 13-yard run and Josh Moore recovered a fumble.

Belfast 34, Bucksport 15

At Bucksport, Jeff Parenteau and Ben Cowan scored two touchdowns apiece as the Lions rolled past the Golden Bucks.

Parenteau rushed for 158 yards on 26 carries and scored on runs of 30 and 10 yards, respectively. Cowan also connected on a 9-yard scoring strike with Tim Aldus.

Warren Chase carried the ball 11 times for 77 yards and a touchdown for Bucksport. Brian Sullivan was on the receiving end of a 15-yard touchdown pass from Chris McHale and Trevor Lalonde connected on a 34-yard field goal for Bucksport.

Dexter 21, MCI 12

At Pittsfield, Dexter used a 14-point fourth-quarter burst to come back from a 12-7 deficit.

Adam Russell gave the Tigers a 15-14 lead in the fourth with his 12-yard touchdown run, followed by a pass from Vinny Greene to tight end Josh Bishop for the two-point conversion. Russell finished the game with 21 carries for 172 yards and one touchdown.

Kevin Armstrong opened up the lead for Dexter with his second touchdown of the game.

The Huskies drew first blood in their defense of the Eastern Maine Class C championship as Tyson Quint used a 5-yard rush to give MCI a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Dexter responded with Armstrong’s 7-yard rush in the second quarter.

Mike Broccio added MCI’s only other score of the contest with a 3-yard dive into the end zone. Broccio finished with 13 carries for 73 yards.

At Madison, Shawn Robishaw scored on a 5-yard run with less than four minutes remaining in the game as the Greyhounds completed a fourth-quarter comeback to beat the Bulldogs.

Madison had taken a first-quarter lead when David Clark hauled in a pass from Jared Deck for a 68-yard touchdown.

At Fairfield, Foster Oakley and Matt Karlson ran for touchdowns as the Vikings downed the Bulldogs.

Matt Waite rushed 10 times for 108 yards for Mt. Blue of Farmington.

Ryan Ackley picked up 125 yards on 17 carries and scored on a 6-yard run for Lawrence.

At Dover-Foxcroft, playing on their new field for the first time in regular-season action, the Ponies brought out the old Pony Express for the victory as they racked up 412 rushing yards in the win at revamped Oakes Field.

A trio of running backs led Foxcroft Academy. Derek Morong rushed 11 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Danny White carried the ball 13 times for 133 yards and a touchdown. Josh Sands rushed 20 times for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

Aaron Sutton had seven tackles and Sands added six for the Ponies.

At Livermore Falls, Drew Hanson threw two long touchdown passes in the first quarter as the Andies beat the Tigers.

Hanson hit Todd Cote on a 43-yard scoring toss, then connected with Levi Jones on a 32-yarder. Tim Drake kicked a 27-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Jacob LaBree scored on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter for Rockland, which was playing its first game as a member of the Campbell Conference Class C division.
