CARIBOU – Melissa Jacobs kicked in a cross from Rachel Wing with 12 minutes remaining in the second half to propel the Brewer Witches to a 1-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Caribou Vikings Saturday.

Stephanie Dickey notched the shutout, stopping 19 of 23 shots for the Witches in their opener.

For 1-3 Caribou, Leah Drew made five saves on six shots.

Presque Isle 2, Nokomis 1

At Presque Isle, Sarah Belden recorded two goals to lift 4-0-1 Presque Isle.

Sarah Gahagan contributed an assist and Melissa Demerchant made eight saves on 10 shots.

For 0-1 Nokomis of Newport, Lindsey Welch scored on a penalty kick. Sarah Lowe turned back 15 of 18 shots.

JV: Presque Isle 3-2

Hermon 3, Foxcroft Academy 1

At Hermon, Mandy Rayot chalked up a hat trick as the Hawks edged the Ponies. It was the season-opener for both teams.

Chantelle Haggerty contributed two assists and Alisa Petrello added an assist for Hermon. Shannon Dobbins turned back five of seven shots.

Christina Korzius and Leslie Nelson led Foxcroft with one goal apiece. Darcey McCormick stopped 11 of 17 shots.

Dexter 8, Central 0

A powerful performance by the Turner twins, Sarah and Lindsay, led the Tigers to an easy victory Saturday as the two combined for seven goals and six assists.

Sarah Turner had four goals and two assists, while her counterpart had three goals and four assists. Tiffany Wintle added a goal for Dexter.

Daphne Robichaud got the season opener shutout with four saves on five shots for 1-0 Dexter. Nicole Daniel stopped 30 of the 51 shots she faced for 0-1 Central.

Ellsworth 2, Bucksport 2 (2OT)

At Ellsworth, Sarah Silsby of Ellsworth kicked home an unassisted goal with 2:14 remaining in the second half to tie the game and conclude the scoring.

Mallory Patten also had an unassisted score for the 0-0-1 Eagles. Victoria Jones made six saves on 11 shots.

Elissa Gordon tallied both goals for Bucksport, one on a penalty kick. Jana Richards stopeed 11 of 19 shots.

JV: Ellsworth 1- 0

Old Town 2, MDI 0

At Old Town, Hannah Marquis racked up two goals and goalkeeper Whitney Carey stopped all four shots she faced as the Indians earned the shutout in a mutual season-opener.

For Mount Desert Island, Sarah Johnson turned away 16 of 18 attempts.

John Bapst 3, Orono 0

At Orono, Meghan Sekera booted in two goals to pace John Bapst by Orono in a mutual season opener.

Nichole Yeo added a goal and Niki Novak had an assist for the Crusaders. Ashley Cuff recorded six saves on nine shots.

For Orono, Joelle Klingerman and Marie Lint combined for seven saves on 10 shots.

Football

Waterville 21, Messalonskee 7

At Waterville, senior halfback Cody DeGuzman carried the ball 16 times for 98 yards and two touchdowns as the Waterville Purple Panthers downed Pine Tree Conference new kid on the block Messalonskee of Oakland 21-7 at Poulin Field Saturday afternoon.

Senior fullback Jeff Boutin led the Panthers’ punishing ground game with 107 yards and one touchdown.

The Hart brothers – senior defensive end Josh and junior linebacker Nate – led a stingy Panthers’ defense by combining for 14 tackles. Ryan Lockard and Sean Carey each had an interception as Waterville held Messalonskee to one completion.

The Eagles managed just 88 yards rushing, but freshman back Chris Duffy scored on a four-yard run in the fourth quarter to avoid a shutout.

Caribou 5, Brewer 0

At Caribou, Joel Griffeth racked up two goals and an assist to propel 2-2 Caribou to the win.

Goalkeeper Nic Chasse made 11 saves on 12 shots and recorded an assist. The Vikings also received goals from Mike Hofman, Andrew Bouchard and Tyler Giles. Matt Holabird and Jerry Shanahan pitched in with assists.

For the Witches, Matthew Beal stopped 21 of 27 Caribou attempts.

JV: Brewer 1, Caribou 1

Greenville 4, Rangeley 3

At Rangeley, Tyler Muzzy scored the winning goal unassisted with 7:40 left in the game and also assisted on another goal to lead the visiting Lakers to the win.

Gregory Aucoin, David Whitman, and Chris Waldron each scored a goal for Greenville. Jonathan Ethier had two assists while goalies Eric Driscoll and Aaron Crossman combined for four saves on seven shots.

For 0-1 Rangeley, Jimmy Goodwin scored two unassisted goals and Tim Johansson added an unassisted goal. Neil Stewart saved 10 of 15 shots.

East Grand 5, Easton 0

At Danforth, Rhett Mortland poured in three goals and an assist and Chris Irish stopped 10 of 10 shots as East Grand of Danforth cruised to a season-opening win.

James Godley aided the cause with a goal and four assists and Tim Irish contributed a goal.

For 1-4-1 Easton, Kyle Wells had 18 saves on 23 shots.
