Belfast woman injured in intersection collision

BELMONT – Jessica Kahriman, 21, of Belfast suffered a back injury when she turned her vehicle into the path of another at Belmont Corner on Monday.

Kahriman was traveling west on Route 3 in a 1986 Eagle when she attempted to turn onto Route 131 and pulled into the path of a 2000 Ford Focus operated by Rod Lougee, 27, of Montville, who was headed east. Lougee was unable to stop and struck Kahriman’s car broadside.

“I didn’t have a chance,” Lougee said. “She pulled right in front of me. I locked up the brakes, the air bag went off and that was it.”

Lougee was uninjured but Kahriman complained of back and neck pain and was removed from her wrecked vehicle on a stretcher and taken by Belfast Ambulance to Waldo County General Hospital.

Investigating officer Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Merl Reed said both vehicles were considered a total loss. The accident occurred at a time of day when bright afternoon sun may have hampered Kahriman’s ability to see Lougee’s silver-colored car as it crested the intersection’s blind hill.
