Bones scores five, Shead rolls Tornquist knocks home rebound as Fort Fairfield nips Ashland

EASTPORT – Junior striker Jason Bones scored five goals and assisted on a sixth to lead Shead to an 8-0 schoolboy soccer win over Woodland on Tuesday.

Gerald Holmes, Ben Maloney and Ricky Kroll each scored a goal while Peter Graves added two assists for 1-0 Shead. Darrin Constant saved one of five shots.

Mike Tupper made 10 saves on 20 shots for the 0-1 Dragons.

Lee 5, Southern Aroostook 1

At Dyer Brook, Blair Emery scored two goals as the Pandas rolled past the Warriors.

Dusting Pickering had one goal and assisted on two others, Frank Severance had a goal and an assist and Opie McDonald added a goal for 4-0 Lee Academy. Adam Ham stopped 12 of 17 shots.

Zack Austin scored the Southern Aroostook goal off an assist by Tommy St. Pierre. Jeff Boutilier and Zac Philibert combined to stop 16 of 25 shots for 1-4 Southern Aroostook.

Fort Fairfield 1, Ashland 0

At Fort Fairfield, Eric Tornquist’s goal was difference as the Tigers edged the Hornets.

Tornquist’s goal came with 25 minutes remaining in the game when he slammed the rebound of a shot into the goal. Tyler Bernaiche and Ryan Babin combined to stop 11 of 15 shots for 5-1-2 Fort Fairfield.

Randy Jenkins saved 10 of 20 shots for 2-3 Ashland.

Machias 2, Washington Acad. 1

At Machias, Matt Cobb scored on an assist from Joe Richards with 11:18 left in the game to give the host Bulldogs a win over the Raiders of East Machias in their season opener.

Richards scored the first goal, unassisted, three minutes before Cobb’s. Goalie Marcus Frutchey, the first freshman goalie to start for coach Bob Sinford in 18 years, made four saves on eight shots.

Jason Cabonte scored an unassisted goal for WA. Seth Schaeffer saved eight of 20 shots for the Raiders.

Van Buren 3, Washburn 2

At Washburn, sophomore Jesse Parent found the goal with a low shot from 15 yards out with 19:44 to play as the Crusaders improved to 6-2.

Stacy Ayotte converted a penalty kick for Van Buren and Tyler Hews added a goal on an assist from Parent. Andrew Martin assisted on the game-winner. SeanViolette made three saves on five shots.

Trevor Thibodeau and Isaac Carney scored the goals for 5-4-1 Washburn, which played the final 59 minutes of the game with only 10 players after an intentional hand-ball call. Jim Bugbee had an assist, while Jesse Maynard made 12 saves on 15 shots.

Central Aroostook 3, Hodgdon 1

At Hodgdon, three different players scored goals for the Panthers in their win over the Hawks.

Lance Bradstreet, Ben McQuade and Artie Wiggins had goals and Bryan Grew picked up an assist for 4-4-1 Central Aroostook. Adam Grew made nine saves on 12 shots.

Tim Williams scored the Hodgdon goal and Adam stopped six of 10 shots for the 3-5 Hawks.

Penquis 7, Central 2

At Milo, Ben Knapp led Penquis with three goals and an assist.

Steve Kissell scored two goals while Colby Chase and Jordan Allen each had one. Justin Allen recorded two assists while Kevin Nason made five saves on 11 shots for the 2-0 Patriots.

For 1-1 Central, Joe Allen and Tristan Strout each had a goal and an assist while Adam Allen, Greg Libbey and Paul Laking combined for 15 saves on 27 shots.

Girls Soccer

Ashland 4, Fort Fairfield 3

At Fort Fairfield, Amanda Martin tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Hornets past Fort Fairfield.

Stephanie Bowering, Jessica Jacques and Beth Chamberlain added a goal apiece for 4-1 Ashland while Kim Oakes made eight saves on 12 shots.

Brittany McLaughlin scored two goals and Maranda Butler added another for the 1-7-1 Tigers. Brittney Guiou and Ellie Arato notched assists. Dani Searles, Keely Sayers and Britney Lavoie combined to make 12 saves on 21 shots.

Madawaska 6, Wisdom 0

At Madawaska, Kay Gerard led 5-1-1 Madawaska with two goals and an assist.

Kristine Cyr scored two goals for the Owls while Ashley Cyr had a goal and two assists. Rosa Londono added a goal while Abby Michaud had an assist. Meghan Marshall made two saves on five shots.

For 3-4-1 Wisdom, Shannon Berube stopped 12 of 22 shots.

Lee 8, Woodland 0

At Lee, Deidra Ham scored three times as the Pandas downed the Dragons.

Freshman Shelby Pickering and junior Jenny Stevens had two goals each while Melissa Hanson had a goal and an assist and Ashley Gifford chipped in with an assist for 3-0 Lee. Katie Harris made five saves on five shots.

Lauren Troiani saved 10 of 21 shots for 0-2 Woodland.

Van Buren 7, Washburn 0

At Washburn, Nicole Corbin scored three goals had had two assists, leading Van Buren to victory.

Tosha Gagnon had a goal and an assist while Amy Vallaincourt added a goal and Kristin Cyr recorded an assist. Danielle Gagnon stopped six of the eight shots she faced for the 7-2 Crudaders.

Morgan Sickles made 11 saves on 24 shots for 1-6-2 Washburn.

CA Panthers 2, Hodgdon 1 (OT)

At Hodgdon, Gabrielle Smith scored the winning goal unassisted one minute into overtime to put 6-2-1 Central Aroostook and give them the win.

Jenna Robinson scored an unassisted goal while Chantal Gagnon stopped nine of 11 shots.

Sara Quint scored unassisted for 3-3-2 Hodgdon while Lindsay Stewart made seven saves on 10 shots.

GSA 8, Penobscot Valley 0

At Howland, Bethany Roberts led 1-0 George Stevens Academy with three goals and an assist.

Sarah Clapp had two goals and two assists while Amy Osage scored two. Kerri Deison added a goal and an assist while Sarah Kilch made five saves on six shots.

For 0-2 Penobscot Valley, Michelle Bachelor and Kylie McGin combined for 17 saves on 27 shots.

Greenville 7, Valley 2

At Bingham, Cindy Lebel and Kristen Sutherland scored two goals apiece as the Lakers cruised past the Cavaliers.

Jillian Bowley, Jamie Craft and Crystal Ferris also scored goals for 2-0 Greenville while Keisha Lizotte made six saves on nine shots.

Megan Melcher and Breanne Belanger found the back of the net for Valley. Crystal Rollins and Whitney Strickland combined to stop 21 of 28 shots for the Cavaliers who were playing their season opener.

Carrabec 1, Mountain Valley 0

At North Anson, Jamie Manzer scored the winning goal on a penalty kick, 11 minutes into the second half to give the 2-0 Cobras the win.

Megan Carbone made nine saves on nine shots.

For 1-1 Mountain Valley, Jessica Hanson made nine saves on nine shots.
