Comprehensive plan focus of Whiting panel

WHITING – The Whiting comprehensive plan committee is asking residents who are interested in assisting with the committee’s work to attend the panel’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12.

Comprehensive growth management plans include information on a community’s past and present as well as ideas. The plans include information on population, employment, economy, housing, natural resources, recreation, transportation, public facilities and services, fiscal capacity and land use.

Towns that have state-approved comprehensive plans are given preference when applying for state grants, including Community Development Block Grants.

The comprehensive plan committee is in the middle of contract negotiations with the Washington County Council of Governments and planner Eric Galant to prepare the plan with information and material provided by the committee.

Townspeople voted at the annual town meeting on March 26 to spend $5,000 for work on the plan.

The committee meets at the Quoddy Regional Land Trust on U.S. Route 1 in Whiting Village.

For information call Alan Brooks at 733-5509.
