In your newspaper, a reader criticized an earlier letter written in her correction of the spelling of Katahdin (BDN, Aug. 29). He states that Ktaadn is the correct spelling as per Thoreau. Well, I have not read Thoreau, and I would guess many other people have not read him either.
I can hear people talking about the Maine quarter when it comes out with the spelling as “Ktaadn.” They will be saying “those dumb people from the back woods of Maine can’t even spell Katahdin.” Lobster and Stephen King won’t be the only things for which we are famous.
