Small tallies game-winner for Huskies Penquis, MCI girls victorious

PITTSFIELD – Ryan Small scored on a breakaway six minutes into the game to lift Maine Central Institute to a 2-0 schoolboy soccer victory over Rockland in high school action.

John Derosby added an insurance goal late in the first half, converting an Andrew Coffin rebound that hit the post, as the Huskies improved to 1-0-1.

Shawn Basford made 11 saves on 12 shots for the winners while Justin Widdecomb rejected 15 of the 25 shots he saw for the 0-2 Tigers.

Carrabec 3, Mount Abram 0

At North Anson, three different players scored the goals for the 1-1 Cobras as they blanked the Roadrunners of Strong.

Wesley Jordan assisted on two goals for the winners. Kyle Metivier, Trey Gaw and Derek Keenan banged home a goal each. John Chretien stopped eight of nine shots.

Steve Swat turned away five of nine shots for 0-1-1 Mount Abram.

JV: Mount Abram 5-1

Mount View 4, Oak Hill 1

At Thorndike, Ryan Donovan and Rick Malady led a 51-shot flurry with two goals each as the 1-1 Mustangs rolled.

Dan Pellerin made eight saves on 13 shots.

For the 0-1 Raiders of Sabattus, Nate Eaton scored the loan goal and Ryan Lizotte and Shane Kenny combined to stop 14 of 51 shots.

JV: Mount View 3-2

Girls soccer

Penquis 5, Central 0

At Milo, Erin Beasley scored one goal and assisted on two more and the Patriots outshot the Red Devils 72-0 en route to the win.

Brooke Hamlin tallied a goal and an assist while April Allen, Megan Russell and Kate Hamlin added goals for 2-0 Penquis. Ashley Pelletier and Nicole Nason split time in net but were untested.

Nicole Daniel made 30 saves on 72 shots for 0-2 Central of Corinth.

MCI 5, Rockland 2

At Rockland, Jess Thompson banged in two goals and dished out an assist as the Huskies of Pittsfield rolled.

Jesse Littlefield, Crystal Baker and Megan Ludd each put in a goal each for 1-1 MCI. Jen Cummings turned away four of seven shots.

Anna Hurley and Michelle Hansen scored for the 0-2 Tigers. Stacey Marcotte and Jessica Clark combined to stop 10 of 16 shots.

Dexter 6, DI-Stonington 2

At Deer Isle, Ashley Stewart had a hat trick and Sarah and Lindsay Turner contributed a goal and two assists apiece as 2-0 Dexter triumphed.

Tiffany Wintle had a goal and an assist for Dexter and Daphne Robichaud made five saves on 13 shots.

Jessi Tarallo and Kortny Larsen had the goals for 0-1 Deer Isle-Stonington. Jenna Eaton had an assist and Roz Santospago made 11 saves on 28 shots.

Old Town 6, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Meghan King banged home three goals to lead the 2-0 Indians to the win.

Sharlene Grenier, Hannah Marquis and Jen Higgins had a goal each for the winners. Mallory Brown made three saves on 13 shots.

Darcy McCormick and Katie Walsh combined on 27 saves off 11 shots for the 0-2 Ponies.

Mount View 2, Oak Hill 1

At Sabattus, Molly Hauser and Violette Saisson scored goals for the Mustangs of Thorndike as they edged the Raiders.

Danielle Mayer made 13 saves on 16 shots for 1-1 Mount View.

Sarah Rossignol scored for 0-1 Oak Hill. Hope Nadeau turned aside 12 of 14 shots.

JV: Mount View 2-1

Nokomis 6, Brewer 1

At Newport, Michelle Murray netted three goals as the Warriors cruised to the win.

Danielle Clark, Delanie Farnham and Amy Preble each added a goal. Amy Paradis and Jenna Buotte chipped in with an assist apiece and Sara Lowe made eight saves on nine shots for 1-1 Nokomis.

Rachel Wing scored for the 1-1 Witches and Stephanie Dickey made eight saves on 18 shots.

Field hockey

Foxcroft 0, Piscataquis 0 (2OT)

At Dover-Foxcroft, the Ponies and the Pirates played through two overtime periods to a tie.

Megan Ryder made seven saves on eight shots for 1-0-1 Foxcroft.

Caterina Riitano stopped nine of the 11 shots she faced for 1-0-1 Piscataquis of Guilford.

JV: Piscataquis 1-0

Belfast 3, Camden Hills 0

At Belfast, goalies Tash Scott and Amanda Littlefield combined on the shutout as the Lions topped the Windjammers.
