Hooray, Terry Miller (BDN letter, Aug. 31) for contributing to wildlife preservation without killing (hunting) any of it this last year. If only more Safari Club International members would act accordingly so that true wildlife preservation could be practiced.

I applaud any organization’s efforts toward this end, but tend to question their actions when the ultimate goal is simply to perpetuate killing the species they are seeking to preserve. This seems more than a little oxymoronic.

I can’t speak for Susan Cockrell or any other anti-hunting person, but as a Registered Maine Guide for the last 14 years I believe that perpetuating the idea that hunting for fun, instead of for food, is antiquated and should go the way of slavery and the Stanley Steamer. Let’s get back to preserving wildlife for wildlife’s sake. And for those who think animals should be hunted because you might hit them with your cars, how about sharing the earth, not dominating and bullying our way through it?
