Conley powers Pats by Cougars Bangor Christian gains second win

BANGOR – Matt Conley scored three goals to power the Bangor Christian Patriots to a 7-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Katahdin Cougars Friday.

Ben Sobey added two goals and an assist for the 2-1 winners. Greg Patterson and Chase Ossinger each scored once, and Brady Harriman and Kliton Xhemali added an assist apiece. D. J. McCleary stopped seven of eight shots.

Travis Robinson scored the only goal for 0-4 Katahdin of Sherman Station. Jordan Qualey made 12 saves on 32 shots.

Mount View 3, Belfast 2

At Belfast, Marc McCorrison put in a pass from Morey Hollett with 5:29 left in regulation to lift Mount View to victory.

McCorrison also had a goal in the first half for the 2-1 Mustangs of Thorndike. Mark Soisson added a goal and Hank Mattson and Rich Malady had assists. Dan Pellerin stopped 18 of 20 Belfast shots.

For the 0-2-1 Lions, Caleb Barnaby registered a goal and an assist. Ned O’Conner registered a goal and Matt Olsen recorded an assist. Chris Abbott made 20 saves on 36 shots.

Greenville 9, Vinalhaven 0

At Greenville, Tyler Muzzy fired home four goals as Greenville improved to 3-0.

Gregory Aucoin contributed a goal and two assists while Derek Boucher had a goal and an assist. Chris Waldron, Richard Folsom and Kevin Bradford had a goal apiece and Aaron Crossman stopped four of five shots.

For 0-1 Vinalhaven, Riley Poole made 30 saves on 48 shots.

Highview Chr. 12, Chop Point 0

At Charleston, Nick Waite tallied four goals and an assist as the Knights rolled.

Anthony Kneeland scored three goals and Dave Day added two more. J.D. Starostin and Adam Cooper each scored a goal and added an assist. Gordon Lovell stopped 12 of 17 shots for 1-0 Highview.

Tim Richter made seven saves on 35 shots for 0-2 Chop Point of Woolwich.

Field hockey

Mattanawcook 3, Brewer 0

At Lincoln, Courtney Gulesian scored twice and the Lynx defense held the Witches without a shot on goal in their win.

Ali Keegan chipped in with a goal for 1-0-1 Mattanawcook. Sara McCormick was in goal for the Lynx.

Hillary Ohmart faced 21 shots for 0-2 Brewer.

JV: Mattanawcook 13-0

Hampden 4, John Bapst 0

At Bangor, Katherine Lumino led the Broncos over the Crusaders with two goals and an assist.

Sarah Peters notched a goal and an assist for the Broncos. Marianne Alley also scored a goal for Hampden.

Jen Hessert earned the shutout, saving all 14 shots for 1-1 Hampden. Nicole Nevells stopped 12 of 23 shots for 0-2 John Bapst.

Girls soccer

Belfast 3, Mount View 0

At Belfast, Emily Biscone’s two goal game and Emily Worth’s shutout kept the Lions’ undefeated season going.

Rosie Hughes added and assist for Belfast off an Abi Maycock assist.

Worth stopped three of five shots for her second shutout of the season for 3-0 Belfast. Danielle Mayer blocked 14 of 25 shots for 1-2 Mt. View

Greenville 3, Shead 0

At Eastport, Cindy Lebel scored one goal and assisted on the Lakers’ other two scores as Greenville upped its mark to 3-0.

Jillian Bouley and Lindsay Ryder netted a goal each for Greenville. Jessica Craft made four saves on five shots.

For the 0-2 Tigers, Roliza DeWitt stopped 10 of 13 shots.

Orono 5, Foxcroft 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Molly Dupere scored three goals and record an assist in the Red Riots’ win over the Ponies.

Maria Millard added two goals for 1-2 Orono while Marie Lint and Joelle Clingerman saved two of six shots.

Christina Kurzius scored off a Leslie Nelson assist for 0-3 Foxcroft, Katie Walsh and Darcy McCormick combined to make 10 saves on 26 shots.

John Bapst 4, Penquis 1

At Bangor, Ashley Cluff racked up two goals, including a header, to lift the Crusaders.

Nikki Novak pitched in with a goal and an assist, Rebecca Stevens netted a goal, and Meghan Sekera had an assist for 3-0 John Bapst. Alex Waring stopped two of eight shots.

Erin Beasley scored Penquis of Milo’s goal on a pass from Lindsay Hamm. Ashley Pelletier turned away 10 of 22 shots for the 2-1 Patriots.

JV: John Bapst 8-0

Camden Hills 3, Rockland 0

At Point Lookout in Northport, Caitlin Brown scored twice as the Windjammers cruised to the win.

Shannon Ames added a goal off an assist from Nesli Orhon for Camden (2-0). Niki Sideris assisted on one of Brown’s goals and Annah Sullivan turned back the two shots she faced.

Jessica Clark stopped 14 of the 17 shots she faced for the 0-3 Tigers.

GSA 3, Searsport 3 (2OT)

At Blue Hill, George Stevens Academy’s Kerri Driscoll scored an unassisted goal with 14:22 remaining to send the game into overtime.

Anastasia Osage contributed a goal and an assist and Bethany Roberts chipped in with a goal for the 2-0-1 Eagles. Sarah Kilch and Liz Tyler combined for three saves on nine shots.

Janelle Hamilton paced 1-0-1 Searsport with a goal and an assist while Jessica Wilson and Nicole Shute each had a goal. Holly Gracie distributed two assists. Lura Carroll turned away 14 of 24 shots.

Ellsworth 7, Sumner 0

At East Sullivan, Sarah Silsby netted a pair of goals as the Eagles improved to 3-0.

Jodie Merchant aided the cause with a goal and two assists while Monica Gardner and Tess Miller both registered a goal and an assist. Morgan Buckingham and May Chan recorded a goal each and Becca Saunders and Cherrie Gammlin both had an assist. Victoria Jones made two saves on four shots.

For the 1-2 Tigers, Hillary Page stopped 20 of 37 shots.

Bucksport 6, Hermon 0

At Bucksport, three Jessie Taylor powered the Golden Bucks to victory.

Nichole Pacheco added a goal and two assists for Bucksport. Brittany Damon added a goal and an assist, while Elissa Gordon added a goal. Jill Richards and Alice Andrews each notched an assist. Jana Richards earned the shutout, stopping four of five shots for 2-0-1 Bucksport.

Jessie Wiggin and Ashley Hichborn combined for 12 saves on 38 shots for 1-2 Hermon.

Katahdin 1, Bangor Chr. 0

At Sherman Station, Krystle McMoran’s goal with 27:36 left in the first half proved to be the game winner for the Cougars.

Scarlet McAvoy assisted on the game-winning score for Katahdin.

Mindy Libby earned her first shutout of the season as she stopped eight of 13 shots for 2-1-1 Katahdin. Kendil Snow saved 15 of 26 shots for 1-2 Bangor Christian.

Lee 3, Penobscot Valley 1

At Howland, freshman Shelby Pickering’s two goals led the Pandas past the Howlers.

Deidra Ham added a goal and Jenny Stevens picked up an assist on Pickering’s second goal for 4-0 Lee. Katie Harris stopped five of 11 shots.

Aryn Ryder scored 0-4 Penobscot Valley’s goal while Kylie McGinn saved 15 of 27 shots.

Calais 1, Narraguagus 0

At Calais, Morgan Drew’s game-winning goal with 1:13 remaining in the first half secured the Blue Devils a win in their season opener.

Katie Welch saved 10 of 13 shots on goal for 1-0 Calais. Sarah Snider stopped seven of nine shots for 0-2 Narraguagus of Harrington.

Central Aroostook 1, Wisdom 0

At Mars Hill, Gabrielle Smith’s goal with 1:21 remaining in the match turned out to be the difference as the Panthers edged the Pioneers.

Smith’s goal came when she blasted the rebound of her deflected free kick into the goal.

Chantal Gagnon stopped four of five shots for 7-2-1 Central Aroostook.

Shannon Berube made 11 saves on 15 shots for 4-6 Wisdom.

Ashland 5, Washburn 0

At Ashland, Amanda Martin’s three goals and assist broke Ashland’s all-time scoring and points schoolgirl records to lead the Hornets to victory.

Martin’s second goal of the game midway through the second half set the all-time scoring record with her 48th career goal. Martin’s assist came on a goal by Caitlin Sherman late in the second half to set the school’s all-time points record with 70 points. The records were previously held by Heidi Maker.

Sherman and Beth Chamberlain had an assist each. Jessica Jacques had a goal and an assist for the Hornets. Kim Oakes notched her second shutout of the season for 5-1 Ashland, saving nine of 12 shots.

Morgan Sickles stopped 14 of 21 shots for 1-8-2 Washburn.
