Marquis, Carey carry Old Town past Fort Kent 3-0

OLD TOWN – Hannah Marquis scored two goals and added an assist to power the Old Town Indians to a 3-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Fort Kent Warriors Saturday.

Meghan King added a goal while Heather Surette and Melanie Cox each had an assist. Whitney Carey stopped eight of nine shots for 3-0 Old Town.

For 2-4-1 Fort Kent, Heather Hartman stopped 15 of 19 shots.

JV: Fort Kent 1-0

Bangor 4, Caribou 1

At Bangor, Kristin Bogan knocked in a pair of goals as the Rams turned back the Vikings.

Emily Capehart and Candida Carvajal contributed a goal apiece for 1-1 Bangor. Laura Clarke doled out two assists and Whitney Lingenfelter registered another. Katherine Miller stopped one of two shots.

For 1-4 Caribou, Haley Jepson kicked in a goal off a Lindsay Burlock pass. Leah Drew made 21 saves on 29 shots.

JV: Bangor 2-1

George Stevens 2, MDI 1

At Blue Hill, Ana Osage’s goal 2:17 into the second half off a Kerri Driscoll assist proved to be the game-winning goal for the Eagles.

GSA’s Sarah Clapp scored the first goal of the game off an Alexandra Hammerly-Brown assist. Sarah Kilch stopped 13 of 17 shots for the 3-0-1 Eagles.

The Trojans scored on an unassisted Tanya Kane goal with 12:28 remaining in the contest. Trina Smith and Sara Johnson combined to save nine of 13 shots for 0-3 MDI.

Hampden 3, Presque Isle 0

At Hampden, Erin Campbell, Kim Stephenson, and Tyne Franchi all had a goal as the Broncos breezed by Presque Isle.

Katie Lindemann and Jani Bosse both added an assist and Emmy Russell made one save on two shots for 2-0 Hampden.

For the 5-1-1 Wildcats, Melissa Demerchant stopped six of 21 shots.

Searsport 8, DI-Stonington 0

At Searsport, Jessica Wilson netted a hat trick and Nicole Shute added a goal and two assists as the Vikings rolled over the Mariners.

Shayna Murphy and Jane Hall contributed to the attack with a goal and an assist each. Jessica Plourde and Kathleen Flannary chipped in with a goal apiece while Kelsey Walsh and Caralee Webster had assists. Jessica Carroll stopped two of four shots for 2-0-1 Searsport.

For 0-2 Deer Isle-Stonington, Meghan Wiburg turned away 12 of 23 Searsport attempts.

Field hockey

Dexter 8, Mattanawcook 0

At Lincoln, Erika Haiko knocked in three goals and Melissa Doody added two more as the Tigers cruised to the win.

Kristy Veazie and Courtney McCormick chipped in with a goal apiece for 3-0 Dexter. Cindy Koscielny made one save on three shots.

Sara McCormick stopped 18 of 35 shots for the 1-1-1 Lynx.

Piscataquis 3, Central 2

At Guilford, Kristi Levesque recovered the ball after it had been lost in a scramble following a corner and fired it in with 10 seconds left to propel the Pirates over the Red Devils.

Levesque had another goal and an assist for Piscataquis. Sandi Haskell contributed a goal and Karole-Anne Emery dished out a pair of assists. Caterina Riiano turned back four of six shots.

Shawna Bell paced Central of Corinth with a goal and an assist while Kari Cummings scored a goal. Cindy Dehm stopped nine of 12 shots.

Stearns 3, Orono 1

At Millinocket, Janessa Nason registered a goal and an assist as the Minutemen earned the win.

Jessica Osborne and Meghana Dye added goals and Leslie Osborne and Holly Franck contributed an assist each. Becca Saucier stopped six of the 10 shots she faced for 2-0-1 Stearns.

Emily Reed scored on a pass from Jenn Dunham for the 0-2 Red Riots. Ana Blagoievic made 10 saves on 13 shots.

Football

Belfast 50, Stearns 0

At Belfast, Jeff Parenteau rushed for three touchdowns and a total of 157 yards on 16 carries as the Lions cruised by the Minutemen.

Quarterback Ben Cowan went two-for-four for 53 yards and a touchdown pass for the 2-0 Lions.

The Belfast defense limited Stearns to just 14 yards. Chris Duval, Matt Welch and Jesse Robbins each snagged an interception.

The Minutemen fell to 0-2.

At Winslow, Ricky Vigue ran for a touchdown and threw for another as the Black Raiders rolled over the Ponies.

Sam Hapworth caught the TD pass from Vigue and Chris McInnis kicked the extra point to give Winslow (2-0) a 7-0 lead at halftime. Vigue ran five yards for a score in the fourth and James Bridges added a touchdown near the end of the game.

Foxcroft quarterback Josh Withee racked up 89 yard on 10-for-20 passing. The Ponies are now 1-1.

Boys soccer

Caribou 2, Bangor 0

At Bangor, a pair of goals in the second half by Tyler Giles and Mike Hoffman, respectively, gave the Vikings the win.

Hoffman and Joel Griffith notched assists for Caribou. Nick Chasse earned the shutout for 3-2 Caribou stopping all seven Bangor shots.

Josh Heath and Payson Nichols combined to stop seven of 10 shots for 1-1 Bangor.

JV: Bangor 4-0

Hampden 3, Presque Isle 2

At Hampden, Chris Walker headed in a cross from Jake Reynolds at the 36:01 mark of the second half to lift the Broncos.

Bud Bridges and Adam Stanley added a goal each and Peter Macone dished out an assist for 1-1 Hampden. Ken Mayo made 13 saves on 19 shots.

Nick Casavant and Nick Hale scored goals, and Luke Blackstone and Steve Porter had assists for 5-1-1 Presque Isle. Shane Clark stopped seven of 20 shots on goal.

JV: Hampden 3-2

Foxcroft 2, Hermon 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Manuel Blanc converted a corner kick with one minute remaining to power the Ponies.

Corey Ray scored unassisted in the first half for 1-2 Foxcroft Academy. Matt Hackett recorded seven saves on eight shots.

For the 2-2 Hawks, Brandon Robinson registered a goal on a pass from Parker Roberts. Matt Watson stopped 12 of 15 shots.

Schenck 1, Piscataquis 0

At Guilford, Tyler Thompson knocked in a loose ball in front of the goal with 35:25 left in the second half to lift the Wolverines to the win.

Mike Rossignol stopped 16 of 31 shots for Schenck of East Millinocket.

Brandon Jones made five saves on 10 shots for the Pirates.

Penobscot Valley 2, GSA 1

At Howland, Jered Michaud headed in a pass from Nick Ware with five minutes remaining in the second half as the Howlers edged the Eagles.

Dustin Nicholson recorded the other goal and Brody Artes notched an assist for 2-1-1 Penobscot Valley. Lance Pelkey turned away 14 of 15 shots on goal.

Mark Clapp booted home an unassisted score for 2-2 George Stevens. James Friend made 14 saves on 16 shots.

Searsport 2, DI-Stonington 1

At Deer Isle, Ryan Shute scored the game-winning goal 50 seconds into the second half as the Vikings held off the Mariners.

Kurt Lockhart scored off an assist from Adam Lockhart in the first half for 1-3 Searsport. Jacob Manner made 10 saves on 18 shots.

Josh Bolton tallied a goal for Deer Isle-Stonington. Chris Gross stopped six of nine shots.

Orono 1, MDI 1 (2OT)

At Mount Desert Island, Orono’s Simon Bilyk recovered the ball during a scramble in front of the net and fired it into the goal with 50 seconds left to play in the second half to tie the game and end the scoring.

Mike Merritt made eight saves on 16 shots for 2-2 Orono.

For 1-0-1 MDI, Liam McSweeney booted home a Kollin Drinkert feed for the score. Adam Thurston and Bill Crawford combined for six saves on nine shots.

JV: MDI 2-0

Bangor Christian 2, Lee 1

At Lee, Matt Conley netted both goals as the Patriots snuck by the Pandas.

Conley recorded the winning score on an assist from Josh Lewis 34 minutes into the second half. D. J. McCleary registered 19 saves on 25 shots for 3-2 Bangor Christian.

For 3-1-1 Lee, Frankie Carpenter scored on a pass from Blair Emery. Adam Ham turned away eight of 12 Patriot attempts.
