HOULTON – Twenty-two people turned in nominations papers last Friday to run for 15 openings on various boards in the town.
The largest field of candidates is running for Town Council for which two three-year slots will be open during the November elections. Nine people turned in papers.
Councilor Paul Romanelli has served two consecutive three-year terms and, in accordance with the town’s charter, is not allowed to run again this year.
Fellow Councilor Philip Bernaiche, who was elected to a one-year post last year, is running.
He is being joined by Thomas Barnes, Linda Brewer, Dale Flewelling, Kent Goode, Robert Levada, Carl Lord Jr., David McDonald and Galen Wilde.
Three people are running for two three-year seats on the SAD 29 board. Incumbents Jon McLaughlin and Randy McGary are seeking re-election. They are being challenged by Vicki Goodwin.
Cynthia Hillman-Forbush is the only candidate for a one-year opening on the board.
There are six people seeking election to five five-year slots on the Cary Memorial Library board of trustees. Incumbents Leigh Cummings Jr. and Forrest Barnes are among those who are running.
Others are Gary Hagan, David Harbison Jr., James Frye and Fred Ludwig.
For the Houlton Water Co. board, incumbent Leighton Fortier and Albert Fitzpatrick are the only candidates for two openings.
Susan Tortello is the only formal candidate for the board of budget review, where there are three, three-year openings.
