CALAIS – On Oct. 7, walkers from in and around the Calais and Pembroke communities will be participating in the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events.
A 2-mile walk will take place in Calais and begin at the Calais Regional Hospital, and a 2.5-mile walk in Pembroke will begin at the Pembroke Historical Society.
Both walks start at 1 p.m.
Throughout the month of October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hundreds of concerned individuals in Maine will walk to raise funds for cancer research, education and support services. Walkers hope to raise $250,000 throughout Maine. In addition to raising funds for crucial research, the event helps support such programs as Tell a Friend, Reach to Recovery and the Look Good … Feel Better program, all-important to those who have heard the words, “You have breast cancer.”
