ENFIELD – A two-vehicle crash on Route 2 on Sunday night resulted in minor injuries and the arrest of an Enfield man, who was charged with operating under the influence of intoxicating liquor.
Kenneth Pearson, 37, was arrested and taken to the Lincoln Police Department after a blood-alcohol content yielded a reading of 0.13, almost twice the legal limit of 0.08, according to Trooper Thomas Fiske of the state police. Pearson was released on bail later that night.
According to Fiske, the accident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. while Pearson was attempting to back a pickup truck towing a boat into his driveway. While Pearson’s 1987 Ford truck and the boat trailer were perpendicular to the road and blocking the traveling lanes, Pearson’s truck was struck broadside by a pickup driven by Abner Young, 70, of Howland.
Fiske said that Young did not see Pearson’s truck in the road until it was too late. He said that the Howland motorist came upon Pearson’s truck as he was driving out of a curve on Route 2 and that it was dark when the accident occurred.
The trooper said both motorists were wearing seat belts and that neither man had passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash. He said Pearson suffered numerous cuts from broken glass, but declined to be taken to the hospital.
