The Husson College women’s soccer team split a pair of games to open its season over the weekend.
The Braves of Bangor defeated Notre Dame College 8-0 on Saturday in Manchester, N.H., but were beaten by Teikyo Post 2-1 on Sunday at Waterbury, Conn.
In Saturday’s game, Kristin Pelletier and Melissa Achorn each scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Braves.
Beatrice DeYcaza scored and had an assist while Erin Pelletier scored and Kerry Tuck added an assist for the winners. Meg Taylor made six saves on seven shots.
For 0-1 Notre Dame, Tamara Hewitt stopped 17 of 37 shots.
In Sunday’s game, Holly Costa scored two unassisted goals for 2-1 Teikyo Post. Holly Zelenkewich made 11 saves on 19 shots for the winners.
Kate Calligan scored an unassisted goal for Husson and Meg Taylor stopped 14 of 25 shots.
Volleyball
UMaine sinks Navy
At Fairbanks, Alaska, the University of Maine received 19 kills and 18 digs from senior Leah Voss en route to a four-game win over Navy in its final match of the Nanook Classic on Sunday.
Maine won 30-26, 28-30, 30-25, 30-23.
Carmen Gabriel, who was selected to the all-tournament team, pitched in with 12 kills and eight digs for the 2-4 Black Bears. Claire Poliquin added 12 kills and sophomore setter Cheryl Elliott dished out 49 assists.
Jamie Leverentz and Christina Knutson had 12 kills apiece for 2-5 Navy.
Eastern Illinois won the tournament championship with a 24-30, 30-28, 19-30, 28-30 win over the University of Alaska-Fairbanks.
