INVERNESS, Nova Scotia – A Maine woman was killed in an accident while hiking in rugged terrain in Nova Scotia.
Mabel Dennison, 69, of Temple was found Sunday by search-and-rescue crews in Cape Breton, her daughter Susie Dennison said.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they found a body in a rugged area along the shores of Mabou Coal Mines during a search to locate a hiker who had been missing for two days. Susie Dennison confirmed that the hiker was her mother, who was well known in the Farmington region of western Maine. Mabel Dennison and her late husband, George Dennison, moved to Maine from New York around 30 years ago and founded the Sandy River School, a parent-run school in Temple.
