Corbin leads Van Buren Goalie Gagnon earns shutout for team’s ninth victory

ST. AGATHA – Nicole Corbin scored two goals and Danielle Gagnon earned the shutout as the Van Buren Crusaders rolled by the Wisdom Pioneers 4-0 in schoolgirl soccer action Tuesday.

Sara Lajoie and Erin Parent added goals for 9-2 Van Buren. Micah Laplante had an assist and Gagnon made five saves on seven shots.

Shannon Berube stopped 19 of 27 shots for 5-7 Wisdom.

Penobscot Valley 3, Dexter 0

At Dexter, Alicia Drost scored two goals, one of them unassisted, to lead the Penobscot Valley Howlers of Howland past Dexter.

Alana Porter scored on a Sharon Drost assist for the 1-3 Howlers. Randi Rackley also had an assist and Kylie McGinn made eight saves on 19 shots.

Daphne Robichaud saved 11 of 18 shots for the 2-2 Tigers.

Greenville 3, Buckfield 1

At Buckfield, Jillian Bouley scored a goal and tallied two assists as the Lakers topped the Bucks.

Diane Aucoin and Kristen Sutherland added a goal apiece for 5-0 Greenville. Cindy Lebel had an assist and Jessie Craft made nine saves on 14 shots.

Jamie Henry scored for 1-1 Buckfield. Brie Mauro had an assist and Heidi Darling stopped 10 of 18 shots.

Ellsworth 4, Hermon 0

At Ellsworth, Monica Gardiner led the 3-0-1 Eagles with three goals.

Jodie Merchant scored a goal while Sarah Silsby had two assists. Cherry Gammelin added an assist while Victoria Jones stopped four of seven shots.

Shannon Dobb made 10 saves on 27 shots for 1-3 Hermon.

JV: Ellsworth 1-0

Boys soccer

Van Buren 4, Wisdom 0

At St. Agatha, Kris Masemola scored three goals in a 17-minute span to power the Crusaders past the Pioneers.

Masemola netted his first goal when his corner kick went into the goal off a Wisdom player. He got an assist on his second goal from Tyler Hews and knocked in a penalty kick for his third. Stacy Ayotte tallied the fourth goal for 9-2 Van Buren. Sean Violette and Dustin Cyr combined for seven saves on 11 shots.

Kenny Corriveau made 24 saves on 33 shots for the 4-8 Pioneers.

Greenville 3, Buckfield 0

At Buckfield, Chris Waldron scored an unassisted goal for 5-0 Greenville, helping lead them to the win.

Nathan Woodbury scored with an assist from Tyler Muzzy and Richard Folsom had a goal on a pass from Derek Boucher. Aaron Crossman made 18 saves on 33 shots.

For 1-1 Buckfield, Jeremy Stevens stopped 9 of 20 shots.

High school field hockey

Central 1, Mattanawcook 0 (OT)

At Corinth, Jenny Rollins knocked in the game-winner in overtime off assists from Jess Fenn and Katie Ahearn as the Red Devils held off the Lynx.

Fenn took a penalty corner and passed the ball to Ahearn, who sent it back to Fenn. Fenn passed to Rollins, who put in the goal. Cindy Dehm made four saves on four shots for 3-1 Central.

Sara McCormick made two saves on 14 shots for 1-2-1 Mattanawcook of Lincoln.

Dexter 6, Stearns 0

At Dexter, Kristy Veazie scored five goals for the 4-0 Tigers, giving her a total of 77 career goals which breaks the previous school record of 74.

Erika Haiko added a goal while Brittany Veazie tallied three assists. Karen Nelson, Courtney McCormick and Sarah Wyman all had assists while Cindy Koscielny faced no shots.

For 2-1-1 Stearns of Millinocket, Becca Saucier made 16 saves on 25 shots.

JV: Dexter 6-0

College field hockey

Husson 4, Thomas 2

At Waterville, Sara McIntire and Nola Boynton scored second-half goals to lift the Braves to victory over the Terriers.

Nicole Palmer scored two first-half goals for 1-1 Husson and Erin Lovely scored twice on penalty kicks for 1-1 Thomas.

Shani Hollins made eight saves on 10 shots for the 1-0 Braves while Dee Kelly made eight saves on 12 shots for the Terriers.
