Readers reflect on tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001

Still reeling from the terrorist attacks, I was shocked on Wednesday morning as I read Nancy Garland’s story, “Mainers react in disbelief to attack.” In it was a quotation by Dan Shaw, “It’s not the blacks and whites who are going to battle with each other. We’re gonna look hard at everyone that wears a turban now.”

Such a biased statement can only exasperate an already horrific situation. At the very least balance this drivel by reminding readers that only 12 to 20 men among 7 million Arab Americans took part in this event. Remind readers that threatening American citizens of Arab descent, filling computer chat rooms with hate mail, and other such detestable actions cannot be tolerated.
