Due to the recent national tragedy, the Bangor Clean Clothes Campaign has decided to cancel its fourth annual Clean Clothes Fun Fair slated for Saturday, Sept. 15, in Westmarket Square in downtown Bangor. The fair was planned to celebrate the passage of the Maine anti-sweatshop purchasing law, local retailers who take a stand against sweatshops, the city’s anti-sweatshop policy and a communitywide commitment to take positive steps to eliminate sweatshops in the world.

The fair was intended to be a lively, fun event. It hasn’t been rescheduled.

The Bangor Clean Clothes campaign decided that such an event was not in keeping with this time of mourning.

“The campaign has found that if we work together as a community we can overcome helplessness and reinforce justice and fairness,” said Jack McKay, organizer of the Clean Clothes Campaign. “In the weeks and months ahead, we believe these principles will be more relevant than ever.” “The campaign wishes to thank the dozens of volunteers, businesses, labor and city officials who have supported the Clean Clothes Fun Fair,” said Bjorn Claeson, another organizer of the fair.
