Canadian mayor calls for minute of silence

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The mayor of Edmundston, located across the border from Madawaska, Maine, has asked fellow residents to join him in a minute of silence on Friday in memory of the people who lost their lives in Tuesday’s violence.

Mayor Jacques P. Martin sought and received the support of the City Council and local radio stations for the minute of silence at 9:45 a.m. Canadian time, today.

He selected 9:45 a.m. because it is the time of the first attack on the World Trade Center.

“It is the least that can be done in the face of such atrocities,” Martin said Thursday. “No one can remain indifferent when faced with such a horrific act, an act which profoundly changed each and every one of us.”
