UNITY – Sara Ricker booted two goals Thursday to lift the University of Maine-Machias to a 2-1 women’s soccer victory over Unity.
Ricker’s unassisted score at the 34-minute mark of the second half was the game-winner. Tania Hart assisted on her first score.
Tricia Farrell made 12 saves on 13 shots for the 2-0 Clippers.
For 1-2 Unity, Kara White scored unassisted. Rom Harrison made 11 saves on 13 shots.
Bates 7, U-New England 0
At Biddeford, Kate Dockery recorded a hat trick as Bates of Lewiston earned the win.
Katie Carroll chipped in with a pair of goals for the 2-0 Bobcats. Heather Thomson and Katey Szum added goals and Amanda Waterhouse notched two assists. Kim Martell and Lynne Antinarelli combined for three saves.
Goalies Melissa Dolbec and Jayne Tarkleson combined for three saves for 1-1 University of New England.
Field hockey
Southern Maine 2, Bates 1
At Gorham, Brittany McClure scored an unassisted goal with 14:52 remaining, lifting the Huskies to victory.
Liza Barker scored unassisted for 2-1 Southern Maine. Jessie Superchi made seven saves on 14 shots.
Johie Farrar scored off a Julia Price assist for 0-2 Bates of Lewiston. Lindsay Gary made 10 saves on 13 shots.
UM-Farmington 4, St. Joseph’s 0
At Farmington, four different players fired in goals as UMaine-Farmington rolled.
Dorice Reitchel led the way with a goal and an assist. Nikki Levesque, Katie Bernier and Nicole Murphy chipped in with a goal apiece while Jenny Dill added an assist. Fawn Albert made five saves on six shots.
For St. Joseph’s of Standish, Laura Lombardi stopped eight of 13 shots. No records were given
Men’s soccer
Thomas 2, Southern Maine 0
At Gorham, Lucas Levesque and Chris Inzerillo scored first-half goals to lead Thomas College of Waterville to victory.
Rick Kelly and Tony Hanley provided assists for the 1-3 Terriers. Ryan Conley made five saves on seven shots.
Jeff Gray did not make a save while facing four shots for the 0-4 Huskies.
Colleges alter schedules
Tuesday’s tragic terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., and President Bush’s proclamation of a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance on Friday, have led to further postponements and cancellations involving Maine college athletic teams.
Central Connecticut has canceled Sunday’s men’s soccer game against the University of Maine and Sacred Heart has canceled a volleyball tournament involving UMaine that had been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
Black Bear contests in football and field hockey were canceled Wednesday, when the women’s soccer team withdrew from a tournament at Wisconsin.
The only UMaine teams which will compete as scheduled are the cross country squads, which will take part in a Saturday meet at Boston.
The Atlantic 10, which on Wednesday opted to let its members decided whether to play their Saturday football games, on Thursday decided to postpone the entire weekend slate.
The New England Small College Conference has postponed its Friday events, including the league volleyball match scheduled to be held at Bates. Friday’s matches will be played Saturday and the action slated for Saturday will be moved to Sunday.
