PORTLAND – A Portland man accused of trying to shoot supermarket employees this summer pleaded innocent to the charges on Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court.
Mark Allen Davis is charged with three counts of attempted murder, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and reckless conduct.
Police say Davis pulled out a .25-caliber semiautomatic and tried to shoot Shop ‘n Save workers in the June incident, but the gun jammed and no one was hurt.
The store was shutting down because of a power failure, police said, and Davis became upset when he could not collect his bottle-deposit money.
Police say Davis began arguing with a clerk, became enraged when a manager asked him to leave and pulled out the gun. Davis pointed it at several people and tried to pull the trigger, but the gun malfunctioned, according to police.
