Mortland paces Vikes to victory

DYER BROOK – Rhett Mortland scored two goals and provided an assist to lead East Grand of Danforth to a 3-0 schoolboy soccer victory over Southern Aroostook here Monday.

Josh Faulkner added an unassisted goal while James Godley had an assist and Chris Irish made 12 saves on 15 shots for the 4-0 Vikings.

For 3-6-1 Southern Aroostook, Zac Philibert stopped nine of 15 shots.

Calais 2, Narraguagus 0

At Calais, Adam Pollock and Andy Frost each scored unassisted goals to give 5-1 Calais the win.

Nate Pelletier stopped eight of the 10 shots he faced.

For 2-3 Narraguagus of Harrington, Eric Pelletier made 13 saves on 16 shots.

Washington Acad. 7, Woodland 1

At Woodland, Jared Gray had four goals and an assist to lead Washington Academy of East Machias to victory.

Juan Cabau had a goal and two assists for the Raiders. Whitney Stevens and Matt Gibson each had a goal and an assist. Barrett Craven made 16 saves on 28 shots.

Alex Lenagn scored a goal for the 0-7 Dragons. Aaron Moody saved 25 of 43 shots.

Machias 4, Lubec 0

At Lubec, Will Hasselmann scored and had an assist, leading Machias to victory.

Thomas Buck scored on a pass from Brian Futchey while Matt Cobb scored on an assist from John Hardy. Matt Edwards scored a goal while Joe Richards added an assist and Marcus Frutchy had the shutout.

Stephen Seavey was the goalkeeper for 1-4 Lubec.

Ashland 5, Katahdin 2

At Ashland, Brock Bessey netted three goals to power the Hornets.

Bruce Oakes chipped in with a goal and two assists. Allan O’Clair also scored for 4-4-1 Ashland. Randy Junkins made 10 saves on 17 shots.

Jerrick Hanson scored a goal and added an assist for the 0-7 Cougars of Sherman Station. Matt Mehrhoff made 13 saves on 27 shots.

Shead 3, Jonesport-Beals 2

At Jonesport, Mike Bernard put in an unassisted goal with 12:46 left in the second half as the Tiger rallied for the win.

A Jason Bones goal with 24:52 left in regulation sent it into overtime. Ben Mahoney added a goal and Darren Constant made 10 saves for 3-1 Shead.

Seth Diffin scored off an assist from Ben Durkee and Billy Merchant knocked in a penalty kick for the 1-5 Royals. Abraham Beal made 21 saves.

Woodland 5, East Grand 1

At Danforth, sophomore Kaitlyn Leeman scored two goals and assisted on two more to help the Dragons past the Vikings.

Alicia Vose added two goals and an assist for 3-2 Woodland while Erika Brown added a goal. Katie Smith and Caredwyn Foley notched assists and Beth Covey made 11 saves on 12 shots.

Allie McKay scored an unassisted goal for 1-2-2 East Grand. Paula Osnoe made four stops on nine shots.

Girls soccer

Sumner 11, Washington Acad. 0

At East Machias, Liz Brunton scored eight goals, leading Sumner to the win.

Meghan Ruhlin had two goals and an assist while Ellen Beattie added a goal and an assist. Tara Sargent and Jessie Daly recorded assists while Millany Page stopped two of two shots.

For Washington Academy, Emily Mawhinney made 16 saves on 21 shots.

Cen. Aroostook 5, Houlton Chr. 0

At Mars Hill, Gabrielle Smith led Central Aroostook with two goals.

Ashley Clockedile scored a goal and had an assist while Stevie Fletcher and Samantha Cousins each added goals. Chantal Gagnon and Brittany Lundeen combined for one save on one shot.

For 1-3 Houlton Christian, Megan Jago faced 38 shots and stopped 20.

Camden 3, Mount View 0

At Camden, freshman Caitlin Brown scored a goal in each half, leading the Windjammers to victory.

Brown has now scored six goals in her first five varsity games and has two assists.

Claire Neville scored the other goal for 3-2 Camden, with Shannon Ames adding an assist. Olivia Mitchell and Anna Sullivan combined for six saves on six shots.

Danielle Mayer made eight saves on 11 shots for 1-4 Mount View of Thorndike.

Ashland 2, Katahdin 0

At Ashland, freshman Beth Chamberlain scored both goals to give the 8-1 Hornets the win.

Pam Spooner and Pam Bennett recorded assists while Kim Oakes stopped six of 12 shots for her fourth consecutive shutout and seventh of the year.

For 3-3-1 Katahdin, Mindy Libby faced 20 shots and stopped 12.

Madawaska 4, Houlton 3

At Madawaska, Kay Gerard scored the winning goal with an assist from Kristine Cyr with 33 minutes remaining in the game.

Ashley Cyr scored two goals while Kristine Cyr added a goal and Meghan Marshall made nine saves on 15 shots for the 8-1-1 Owls.

For 6-3-1 Houlton, Sarah Beasley scored and had an assist while Hannah Socoby had an unassisted goal. Tambre Goodwind added a goal while Anna Lenentine stopped 16 of 21 shots.

JV: Houlton 1-0

Field hockey

Hampden 1, Foxcroft 0 (OT)

At Hampden Saturday, Katherine Lumino scored the only goal of the game almost four minutes into overtime as she redirected a pass from Chrissy Beal before the goalie could block it right in front of the goal.

Jennifer Hessert made eight saves on 10 shots for the 2-3 Hampden Academy Broncos.

Megan Ryder saved 11 of 17 shots for the Foxcroft Academy Ponies, now 3-1-1.

JV: Foxcroft 1-0

Piscataquis 1, Mattanawcook 0

At Lincoln, Karole-Ann Emery scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the overtime period, lifting Piscataquis of Guilford to victory.

Caterina Riitano made five saves on eight shots for the 4-1-1 Pirates.

Sara McCormick registered 11 saves on 17 shots for 1-4-1 Mattanawcook Academy.

JV: Piscataquis 1-0

Dexter 10, Orono 0

At Orono, senior Kristy Veazie racked up three goals and three assists en route to the win and what may be a new state career goals record.

Veazie’s three goals gave her 83. It is believed the previous record was 82.

Meagan Fogerty and Melissa Doody added two goals apiece. Erika Haiko, Karen Patterson and Courtney McCormick each scored one goal. Cindy Koscielny saved all four Dexter shots for the 6-0 Tigers.

Ana Blagojevic made 21 saves on 31 shots for the 0-5 Red Riots.

Nokomis 2, John Bapst 0

At Newport, Ashley MacKenzie scored both goals for 4-2 Nokomis to give them the win.

Michelle Barden and Megan Randlett each had assists while Brandi Davis made one save on four shots.

Julia Sleeper stopped seven of 12 shots for John Bapst.

JV: Nokomis 3-0

Old Town 2, Foxcroft 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Liz Saucier scored the winning goal for 5-0 Old Town with an assist from Sarah Metivier with 6:10 remaining in the game.

Melanie Enos scored with an assist from Kasey Spencer while Emelie Richard made 13 saves on 15 shots.

For 3-2-1 Foxcroft Academy, Emily Austen scored unassisted while Megan Rider made nine saves on 21 shots.

Camden Hills 2, Oak Hill 0

At Camden Hills, Ashley Elliot scored unassisted for the 2-4 Windjammers.

Carrie Winchenbach scored on an assist from Elliot while Becky McCrohan faced no shots.

For 0-5 Oak Hill, Jen Gendron made nine saves on 12 shots.

Belfast 3, Rockland 1

At Belfast, Morgan Crandall scored unassisted for 5-0 Belfast.

Ann Berry scored with an assist from Kate Gale while Sarah Skinner scored on a pass from Ashley Bryant. Tash Scott and Amanda Littlefield combined for two saves on three shots.

For 3-3 Rockland, Caitlyn Grant scored with an assist from Stephanie Fogarty while Kelly Saunders stopped 10 of 13 shots.

JV: Belfast 3-0
