In response to the Aug. 1 article about the potential closing of the Benedicta Elementary School, I felt the entire article was completely one-sided. The few people who were interviewed were mostly in favor of closing down this small country school that houses from 20 to 30 students. I am delighted the vote was upheld to put a new roof on the school, ensuring the school remains open for at least the time being.

This little school has been the foundation of Benedicta for many years. As a parent of several children, including a special needs child, who have and will be attending the Benedicta Elementary School for the next several years, I can say that it would be a shame to lose this school and part of the history of Benedicta.

This school not only brings our community together, but builds confidence and readies our children for the day they will be integrated into the larger SAD 25 school system.

We all should realize how lucky we are to be a part of a dying group of small schools. Anyone who walks into the Benedicta School will see that this is more than just a building, but a group of kind, caring people who work together to make every child feel special, not just the best students and the sports stars.

Aren’t these small country schools the ones rich people pay to have their children attend?

Bravo, Benedicta Elementary School. Here’s to having another great year and many more to follow.
