UNITY – Four different players scored goals to power the Unity College Rams to a 4-0 women’s soccer victory over the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners Thursday.
Kristen Girard, Kara White, Kyla Laplante, and Rom Harrison provided the scoring for 2-3 Unity. Heather Baker stopped all seven shots she faced in getting the shutout.
Tracey Forand stopped 20 of 24 shots for 0-4 Maine Maritime of Castine.
St. Joseph’s 2, Notre Dame 0
At Manchester, N.H., Tiffany Merrill’s first-half goal and Megan Curty’s second-half scored provided St. Joseph’s with its road win over Notre Dame College.
Field hockey
UMF 1, Southern Maine 0
At Gorham, junior goalie Fawn Albert stopped four of five shots in the second round of penalty strokes to give the University of Maine-Farmington the victory.
Sophomore Angie White, who forced the game into the second round of penalty strokes when she scored on UMF’s final shot in the first round, and senior Katie Bernier scored on the Beavers’ first and third shots in the second round of strokes to give the visitors the win.
Albert made 12 saves during the 100 minutes of regulation and overtime, then stopped eight of 10 penalty strokes. USM’s Jessie Superchi had eight saves and turned aside six of nine penalty strokes.
UMF is now 2-2 and USM is 4-2.
Men’s soccer
UMF 3, Southern Maine 0
At Gorham, Adam Zukowksi scored two second-half goals to help the University of Maine-Farmington win.
David Sithole scored off a Todd Chamberlain assist for UMF’s first-half goal. Jeff Beck notched an assist on Zukowski’s second goal and goalies Mike Hauser and Ryan Hersey combined for three saves on three shots for the 3-0 winners.
Dan Hills made four saves on 14 shots for 1-6 USM.
