The Maine team did not get off to a great start at the USGA Men’s State Team Championship being played at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn. Maine carded a first round team total of 160 which placed them far down the list of the other 49 states and District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Maine trails leaders Virginia by 18 strokes going into today’s second round of the 54-hole event.
Mark Plummer of Manchester recorded a 79 for the low Maine score of the day. Thomas Bean of Kennebunk shot 81 and Ron Brown of Cumberland Forside caarded an 82.
The two low scores on each team are counted for the total score.
