Williams beat Colby of Waterville 28-13, Middlebury defeated Bowdoin of Brunswick 21-7 and Trinity trounced Bates of Lewiston 41-7 in opening games for Maine small colleges .

In Waterville, Joe Reardon passed for 192 yards and one touchdown and Mike Hackett scored on a 44-yard run as Williams beat Colby.

After an interception ended Colby’s first drive of the game, Williams (1-0) took a 7-0 lead when Tyler Shea rushed into the end zone from the 3.

Colby (0-1) got its only touchdown in the fourth period on a 26-yard pass from Pat Conley to Jason Cunnane.

Keith Jonassen of Colby and Scott Farley of Williams each had two field goals.

Colby had 369 yards in total offense, 15 yards more than Williams.

Bill Lazzaro ran 74 yards for a touchdown on Middlebury’s first play from scrimmage and the visiting Panthers went on to defeat Bowdoin.

Lazzaro, who took a handoff up the middle and broke two tackles, finished the day with 142 yards on 24 carries.

Middlebury (1-0) also scored on a 10-yard pass from Scott Roberts to Denny Smith and Eric Shanley’s 2-yard run. Bowdoin (0-1) scored on a quarterback sneak by Justin Hardison.

Ernie Miller intercepted two passes for Middlebury.

In Lewiston, Tom Pierandi ran for 135 yards and a touchdown and Brian Fabrizio rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns as Trinity beat Bates.

The Bantams (1-0) scored touchdowns on five of their six possessions in the first half. They had a 450 to 125 advantage in total yardage and a 24-9 margin in first downs.

Trinity led 35-0 at halftime before Bates (0-1) got on the board in the third quarter when linebacker Pat Connors recovered a fumble in the end zone.
