Congratulations to Suzanne Kelly (BDN, Sept. 7) for her letter on the big-box Wal-Mart. I agree with her as do many others whom I’ve talked to. In the meantime, Bangor city councilors are rubbing their hands anticipating a nice tax increase. They’re not even thinking of desecrating that beautiful land and the rare bird species there.
How about the businesses that will be hurt by these southern billionaires, not to mention the road? Stillwater Avenue can’t handle the traffic now. Of course, selling the trailer park didn’t help; only the owner’s pocketbook.
I remember when I was about 10 living in Orono, Mr. Rudnicki used to deliver milk to our large family. I wonder how he’d feel it he were here today to see what his family has done with his beautiful farmland.
Wal-Mart could easily use the vacant Home Quarters building and still get its tax write-off.
As for me, I’m boycotting the new big-box store.
