CALAIS – The ramps are on their way, and 40 sheets of surface sheet material for the new Calais skate park will be here Saturday.
Members of the skate park committee are asking for volunteers to help in the final assembly of the ramps and the installation of two sets of fencing. They plan a workshop for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
The committee needs help with food preparation and raffles.
Tools, including cordless drills and batteries, heavy-duty extension cords, post-hole diggers, garden rakes and hammers are needed. The volunteer workers also would appreciate any donation of baked goods.
Bob Moholland, the St. Croix Regional Technical Center’s truck driving instructor, and Austin Ginn of the city’s Public Works Department have volunteered to go to Virginia to pick up the materials. The Thomas DiCenzo Corp. has offered the use of its heavy-duty forklift to unload the ramps from the flatbed trailer.
“Once the ramps are placed in their locations, work will begin on the final assembly of the railings to the ramps,” the committee said in a prepared release.
Johnson’s Hardware has donated a stunt bike that will be raffled off and “America Unites” pins also will be available. There will be a donation bucket; the proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross to help the efforts of rescue workers in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania.
