AUBURN – Investigators from state and Auburn police were at the scene Sunday of what officials described as a suspicious death of a 54-year-old man.

A body was found in an apartment on Temple Street after a tenant in the building walked to the Auburn police at about 8 a.m. and reported an incident, police said.

Spokesman Stephen McCausland of the state Public Safety Department said police were classifying the death as suspicious until an autopsy scheduled for Monday in Augusta determines the cause of death.

The dead man’s name was not being released because his relatives had not been notified, McCausland said. The man lived locally.

Police would not say whether a weapon was found.

A resident of the building told WCSH-TV he heard an argument in the building at about 2 a.m. Sunday.
