The Cat back in service after mechanical issues

BAR HARBOR – The high-speed ferry The Cat was back in service Wednesday after mechanical difficulties forced it to cancel a return trip from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, earlier in the week.

The ferry developed the problem Monday on the trip from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth, and officials at Bay Ferries Limited decided to keep the vessel in Yarmouth for repairs, said Annette Higgins, manager of the company’s ferry terminal in Bar Harbor.

Higgins said she did not know the nature of the problem.

The problem left an undetermined number of travelers stranded in Yarmouth, but Bay Ferries had a contingency plan in place. The travelers were taken to nearby Digby and ferried to St. John , New Brunswick. They were then taken by bus back to Bar Harbor.

With repairs completed, The Cat returned to Bar Harbor early Wednesday morning and left on its regularly scheduled trip to Yarmouth later that morning.
