The University of Maine-Machias and Unity College men’s soccer game scheduled for Wednesday was postponed when one of the two vans containing UMM players was involved in an accident on Route 1A at the south end of the Old County Road in Hampden.

A Hampden Police Department spokesman said the van rear-ended a car turning into a driveway.

None of the players was hurt but the man in the car did go to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

The van was towed to a Bangor garage with a damaged grill and radiator.

The players waited at the Hampden Police Department for another van from UMM to come and get them.

UMM Athletic Director Bob Hepler said they postponed the game because they would have had to push the starting time of the game back from 3 p.m. until at least 4:45.

The van that wasn’t involved in the accident would have had to return to Hampden from Unity to pick up the remaining team members.
