FARMINGTON – Megan Woodcock notched back-to-back goals in the first half, one off a pass from Lindsay Tatarczuck and one off a penalty kick, as the University of Maine-Farmington women’s soccer team rolled over Lyndon State of Vermont 6-0 Wednesday.
Rachelle Dube scored 7-2 UM-Farmington’s first goal off a pass from Julia Malek. Erin Finland added a goal, which Shannon Mailhot assisted on. Malek scored off a pass from Woodcock to open the second half, then an unassisted goal by Mailhot capped the scoring. Alyson Pontbriand and Dawn Robertson earned the shutout in net, needing only to stop seven shots as the Beavers’ stingy defense held Lyndon State to seven shots.
Maggie Scott earned 12 saves for Lyndon State.
Bowdoin 3, Southern Maine 1
At Brunswick, Shelly Chessie knocked in two goals as the Polar Bears knocked off the Huskies.
Erin Finn-Welch had the other goal for 4-2-1 Bowdoin. Carolyn Budney, Rachel Gordon and Katie Sheridan added an assist each. Emily Rizza had two saves in net.
For the 3-7 Huskies, Jennifer Kelly scored off a pass from Jenny Boucher. Marcy Ansley made six saves in net.
Men’s soccer
Bowdoin 7, Husson 0
At Bangor, three players each scored two goals as the Polar Bears blanked the Braves.
David Eulow, Bobby Defiletf and Conor Dowley each netted two goals for Bowdoin. Patrick Bracewell added a goal. Travis Derr and Tommy Davis split time in net, only facing one shot.
Cliff Urquhart and Gus Demos combined to make 13 saves on 27 shots for Husson College.
St. Joseph’s 2, Southern Maine 0
At Standish, Mike Erickson and Michael Crockett scored first-half goals 40 seconds apart as the Monks beat the Huskies.
Jim Morgan and Michael Herrick had assists for St. Joseph’s. Jeff Yaeger made three saves on five shots to earn the shutout.
Matthew Roberge made 11 saves for Southern Maine of Gorham.
Field hockey
Bates 5, UM-Farmington 1
At Lewiston, five players scored one goal apiece as the Bobcats downed the Beavers.
Leslie Moser, Julia Price, Jessica Bradley, Mary Alice Cornog and Lindsay Mayock scored for 2-7 Bates College. Lindsay Gary made one saves on two shots.
Katie Bernier scored on a Dorice Reichtel assist for 5-3 UM-Farmington. Fawn Gilbert racked up 26 saves and faced 42 shots.
Volleyball
New Hampshire dumps Maine
At Durham, N.H., Lauren Knight racked up 20 kills as New Hampshire beat Maine 30-19, 27-30, 30-27, 30-19 in their mutual America East opener.
Alyson Coler notched 15 kills, 12 digs and four aces for the 5-0 Wildcats.
Leah Voss paces 5-7 Maine with 17 kids. Randi Olin had 12 kills and Cheryl Elliott amassed 48 assists.
