ELLSWORTH – Police have not charged an Ellsworth man with possession of illegal drugs, although Officer Loren Clarke found what he describes as a “used heroin syringe” in the man’s car on Wednesday evening.

The man, 35, was pulled over when Clarke noticed that the inspection sticker on the car had expired.

Clarke searched the vehicle and found the syringe, which police confiscated, but nothing else in the car was deemed suspicious. The man told Clarke that he had last used the syringe four days ago, according to a police report.

The man was cited for failure to display a valid certificate of inspection, and police continued to investigate the case.

The syringe was found to be empty, so no further charges are pending, Lieutenant Harold Page said Thursday.
