Gifford’s goal gives OT victory Schenck, Foxcroft also collect wins

MOUNT DESERT – Jeremy Gifford’s goal two minutes into overtime gave the Old Town Indians a 2-1 schoolboy soccer victory over the Mount Desert Island Trojans Friday.

Brent Magers gave the Indians a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first half. Kyle Jones tied the game for the Trojans with his goal off a Brad Dalton assist with 11 minutes remaining in regulation.

Tyler Tracewski had eight saves on 17 shots for 3-8-1 Old Town. Adam Thurston stopped eight of 14 shots for 7-4-2 MDI.

Foxcroft 2, Nokomis 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Manuel Blanc and Jason Weymouth each scored a goal as the Foxcroft Academy boys soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Nokomis Friday in high school action.

It was the 9-4 Ponies’ seventh straight victory. Pat Lizotte and Josh Chase provided assists. Matt Hackett made six saves on seven shots, notching his second consecutive shutout and his third of the season.

Mike Jacques made nine saves on 11 shots for the 1-10-1 Warriors of Newport.

Piscataquis 3, Penobscot Valley 0

At Guilford, Harper Hoffman scored twice on passes from Jon Prescott as Piscataquis cruised by Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Kyle Pulkkinen converted a direct kick while goalies John Luellen and Brandon Jones combined for 14 saves on 17 shots.

For the Howlers, Lance Pelkey turned away 14 of 25 attempts.

Machias 1, Sumner 0 (2OT)

At Machias, Erik Smith fielded a deflected ball 30 yards from the goal and fired it in with 59 seconds remaining in the second overtime as Machias slipped by Sumner of East Sullivan.

Marcus Frutchey stopped all four shots he faced for the 12-0-1 Bulldogs.

For the 4-7-2 Tigers, J.J. Phinney recorded four saves on nine shots.

Field Hockey

Hampden 5, Foxcroft 4 (OT)

At Dover-Foxcroft Thursday, Katherine Lumino scored the game-winner off a pass from Whitney Brydon with 2:42 left in overtime, as the Broncos improved to 7-5.

Brydon added four goals and Peters notched two assists for the winners. Jen Hessert made 21 saves on 26 shots.

For the 7-4-1 Ponies, Molly Tibbetts had two goals while Tamlyn Frederick and Ashley McKusick added one each. Megan Ryder rejected seven of 12 shots.

JV: Foxcroft 1-0

Erskine 1, Camden Hills 0

At Camden Hills, Beth Angell’s goal off a penalty corner with 15:45 remaining in the first half proved to be the difference for Erskine of South China.

Mary Tibbetts turned away all four shots she faced for the 7-4 Eagles.

For the 3-10 Windjammers, Becky McCrohan made five saves on six shots.

Girls soccer

Sumner 3, Washington Acad. 0

At East Sullivan, Meghan Ruhlin booted a pair of goals as Sumner shut out Washington Academy of East Machias.

Danie Crowley added a score on a direct kick and Jordan Reed contributed an assist. Hillary Page stopped the only shot she faced for the 5-6-1 Tigers.

For the 0-9 Raiders, Emily Mawhinney registered six saves on 37 shots.

Narraguagus 5, DI-Stonington 2

At Deer Isle, Missy Barbee’s hat trick proved to be the difference as the Knights improved to 8-2.

Amanda Kennedy and Shelby Howe also scored for the Knights. Liz Thompson added an assist. Thompson and Sarah Snider combined to make 11 saves on 19 shots for 8-2 Narraguagus.

Meghan Wiberg and Roz Santospago scored for the Mariners. Alice Anderson blocked 15 of 20 shots for 1-9-1 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Winslow 3, Camden Hills 1

At Camden, Brittany Maclean scored all three goals as Winslow topped Camden Hills.

All of Maclean’s scores were unassisted. Bethany Roderigue recorded seven saves on 10 shots as Winslow improved to 12-1.

For 5-7-1 Camden Hills, Amanda Thorndike tallied an unassisted goal. Annah Sullivan made eight saves on 16 shots.

At East Millinocket, the Pandas maintained their perfect season by winning their last game.
