BANGOR – Melissa Achorn scored four goals to power the Husson College Braves to a 10-0 women’s soccer victory over Johnson State (Vt.) Tuesday.
Beatriz DeYcaza contributed two goals while Kristin Pelletier and Katy Calligan each had a goal and an assist for the 7-4 winners. Kiera Dorr scored on an assist from Samantha Scott and Scott also added a goal. Tina Tobin and Mandy Fanjoy recorded assists and Meg Taylor made 11 saves on 14 shots to get her seventh shutout in 11 games.
Melissa Edwards stopped 19 of 26 shots for 5-8 Johnson State.
UM-Machias 1, UM-Fort Kent 0
At Machias, freshman Stefanie Hannan scored on a 12-yard shot 1:52 into the second half to propel the Clippers.
Tonia Hart assisted on the game-winner for 10-0 UM-Machias. Tricia Farrell made two saves on two shots. Joy Gervais made 25 saves on 33 shots for the 1-8 Bengals.
Men’s soccer
UMM 3, UMFK 2 (OT)
At Machias, Tim Spry’s 15-yard half-volley 3:42 into the first overtime period gave the University of Maine-Machias its third straight win after beginning the season with seven straight losses.
Brett Howarth scored twice for the 3-7 Clippers while Matt Salyer notched an assist. Andy Swift made 10 saves on 12 shots.
Juan Murphy scored a goal and assisted on the other for 5-4 UM-Fort Kent. Dennis Traup added a goal and two goalkeepers combined to make 15 saves on 18 shots.
Bates 8, U-New England 0
At Lewiston, Terence O’Conell scored two goals while four others had a goal and an assist to lead the Bates Bobcats past the University of New England Red Knights.
Drew Weymouth, Bangor’s Eben Sypitkowski, Josh Myer and Dan Bradford each notched a goal and an assist. Dan Spector and Chris Mansfield combined for one save on two shots for the 4-4 Bobcats.
Chris Mansfield had 13 saves on 24 shots for 0-10 UNE.
Field hockey
Merrimack 4, St. Joseph’s 0
At Andover, Mass., Allison Crawford scored two goals for 3-10 Merrimack.
Kim Bonner scored with and assist from Melissa Ranieri while Colleen Miller had a goal on a pass from Stephanie Hayes. Katilin McCone stopped 10 of 15 shots.
Laura Lombardi made 17 saves on 25 shots for St. Joseph’s of Standish.
