A 17-year-old Orono youth already on probation for an assault was arrested earlier this week after it was reported he assaulted his younger brother and took money from him.

Orono police were called to Middle Street at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of two men fighting in the street. When authorities arrived, there was no fight, rather a father was trying to calm down his 17-year-old son, reported Sgt. Gary Duquette.

The son, whose name was not released as he is a juvenile, was on probation for a conviction for an assault on his parents, Duquette said.

Tuesday’s incident also involved an assault on a family member, this time the youth’s 15-year-old brother, according to police. Duquette said the younger brother was half asleep on his bed when his brother began hitting him and took $60 from his pocket.

The younger brother tried to stop him and the fight continued into the hallway. The younger brother was struck about 30 to 40 times in an assault that included being kicked and kneed, Duquette said.

At one point, the younger brother tried to call police, but his older sibling grabbed the phone from him and hung up.

The father interceded and pulled the older son – who is an estimated 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 260 pounds – outside.

Duquette said the 17-year-old has been charged with domestic assault and his probation was revoked. He is expected to be charged with theft and obstructing a report of a crime or injury.

Minor injuries were reported in a three-vehicle accident that tied up traffic for about 30 minutes on Route 15 in Corinth on Thursday afternoon.

Jennifer Crawford, 29, of Garland was driving southbound on Route 15 and was turning onto Bradbury Drive when she was struck from behind by an SUV driven by Sara Hatch, 21, of Corinth who told Trooper Gerald Pearson that she didn’t see Crawford’s vehicle.

The impact sent Crawford’s car spinning into a pickup truck heading north and driven by 56-year-old Anthony Pasqual of Yarmouth.

Pearson said five people were taken to two hospitals in Bangor, including two young children who were in Crawford’s car, although the trooper said injuries were limited to bumps and bruises. Neither Crawford nor Hatch were wearing seat belts, the trooper said.

Warned in August and again in September not to harass his former girlfriend, a Bangor man made repeated phone calls to his ex-girlfriend and was arrested Thursday morning.

Scott Chance, 34, faces charges of telephone harassment and terrorizing. According to Orono police, the woman’s answering machine was filled with his messages Wednesday. Chance made statements that if she did not contact him, he would take “drastic measures” and that she wouldn’t like the results, according to police reports.

A resident of Pray’s Mobile Home Parks in Bangor told police that Sheryl Bassett entered his home late Tuesday night, yelling and swearing, insisting that he owed her money.

When Officer George Spencer arrived at the Finson Road park, there was no yelling, just the man leaning over the 43-year-old Bassett who apparently passed out. Within a few minutes, Spencer reported, Bassett miraculously got up and immediately resumed the swearing and yelling.

The man also told Spencer that Bassett had splashed alcohol on him and his stereo system. The man gave Bassett $7 for a cab fare and she was sent on her way, although Spencer wasn’t convinced she was leaving and remained in the area.

Within five minutes, Spencer noticed a figure walking back to the trailer where she began banging on the door and yelling profanity.

Spencer arrested Bassett on a charge of criminal trespass.
