DOT to re-pave area of Route 1 in Warren

WARREN – Drivers using U.S. Route 1 should allow extra travel time beginning Monday, when the state Department of Transportation will start paving a section of the coastal highway.

“We’re going to be paving the portion of Route 1 between Route 90 and Route 97 in Warren,” Rhonda Waterman, a spokeswoman in DOT’s Rockland office, said in a news release. “Motorists can expect to encounter paving equipment, supply trucks, workers in the roadway and alternating one-way traffic in the immediate vicinity of the paving operation.”

The work, which will be done by Lane Construction Corp., will not replace DOT’s plans for rebuilding part of Route 1. The layer of asphalt that will be put down will address safety concerns and is supposed to improve the ride quality and keep water out of the roadway base until the design work for the project can be completed, Waterman said.

The re-paving job is expected to take two weeks, she said.
